Lou Reed solo, and Lou and Nico, 1971; acoustic home recordings
A remarkable document of tunes and musical idea Lou and Nico had after leaving the Velvet Underground.
A pair of ad-hoc rehearsal tapes produced by Lou Reed and Nico on two different dates at the apartment of Richard and Lisa Robinson in 1971. These recordings capture Reed at the very beginning of his solo career, providing his very first known demos of several songs (including Walk on the Wild Side, Hangin’ Round, and Berlin), and are an essential component of Reed’s legacy as a composer and musician. Unfortunately, these tapes are becoming increasingly difficult to find in full, and this upload is currently the only complete copy of this performance to be found not only on YouTube, but on most of the Internet. Sourced from two separate bootlegs (both of which are currently available only on the most obscure of music sites), this post brings ease of access to these extraordinary sessions for the very first time.
